Amy's First Post: Using concepts in other Group Projects

Here's a go at my first blog post!! As indicated in our BlogHogs blog presentation, our group members have committed to work diligently and in a timely fashion on our blog posts each week. The use of sticky notes is my favorite form of organization. As a result, I have multiple sticky notes around my dorm room to remember to blog.

As a reflection of the material learned in Small Group Communication, I am trying really hard to apply the Symbolic Convergence Theory and Leadership to my group project in Database Management. A few weeks ago, we were randomly assigned groups for our semester group project. Being thrown into a random group with a company I am not interested in, I was not looking forward to it. But, I took initiation and continued to get contact information from the group members. Surprisingly, I got email responses rather quickly: off to a great start. At our first meeting, we actually bonded well. Our group actually used the Symbolic Convergence Theory when coming up with our group logo. We were assigned Harley Davidson Motorcycle Company. Of course we wanted a relevant logo, but didn't know which one. One by one we eliminated possible logos based on group member's opinions. While eliminating logos, we were able to connect with each other with small talk based on the logos. I feel as if the Symbolic Convergence Theory has helped us to communicate better and able to be more comfortable participating in group discussion Also, this class material is helping our team determine a leader. All group members must be assigned a task. My knowledge of chapter twelve materials on leadership helped me to actively participate in the task assignment. Our leader has the following attributes: knowledge of Harley Davidson, outgoing, friendly, and ambition. On the other hand, I was assigned as a reporter. i am in charge of documentation, making sure to pay attention to details to give an accurate record of our progress. This course hopefully can help me in other aspects to this project this semester too!!
