What is my Group Role?

In class on Wednesday it was interesting to go through the chapter on "Relating to Others in Groups and Teams." I feel as if diversity is important in a group. Just like the human body, each member serves as a different function to the group.  I really enjoyed the notecard activity and found it to be very insightful and surprising, actually. As described in the lecture and in the textbook, there are a variety of group task roles. I see myself as an information giver. I am an individual that pays attention to detail. As a member of BlogHogs I find myself often times critiquing our work making sure we meet the specifications, giving information otherwise known as feedback to the group members.  In addition, I also saw myself as the coordinator. I am often times the designated one to send out reminder texts and emails coordinating meetings times and locations. Much to my surprise some of my group members perceive me as an energizer and opinion giver. For maintenance roles, quite a few of the responses said they see me as a harmonizer.  Although I do strive for harmony and never like to raise my voice and argue, I don’t necessarily see myself as a harmonizer, but rather an encourager and standard-setter. Lastly, the individual rather negative roles were pretty extreme, thus it was hard to identify with the categories. I had a hard time finding a category I fit into, but for the most part I’d say I sometimes seek too much self-recognition. Although that was one team member’s response, every team member said something different. Talking as a team later, we were all really guessing on that category. Overall though I’d say that activity was very insightful and a fun way to learn about chapter four.
